Newfoundlands

Newfoundlands are often known as gentle giants — large, powerful dogs with famously sweet dispositions, steady temperaments, and deep devotion to their people. They are impressive in size, but what makes the breed truly special is their heart, loyalty, and calm, watchful connection with the families they love.

Newfoundlands

At Bear Mountain Kennels, Newfoundlands are incredibly meaningful to our family. Our first Newfoundland, Elvira, helped open our eyes to the life-changing role the right dog can play in a family. Through training, service work, scent work, obedience, and Rally, we learned firsthand how powerful the bond between a Newfoundland and their person can be.

As preservation-minded breeders, we are committed to honoring the Newfoundland’s original purpose, structure, temperament, working ability, and natural instincts. We value the breed’s strength, steadiness, intelligence, and gentle nature, and we carefully consider those qualities when planning pairings and placing puppies.

Because of their size, grooming needs, training needs, space considerations, and lifelong commitment, Newfoundlands are best suited for families who understand and are prepared for the responsibility of this remarkable breed. These puppies are not placed casually. We take extra care to make sure each family is ready to provide the structure, space, training, grooming, and lifelong care a Newfoundland deserves.
